This is another Andrew Grey triumph. Indeed, if it weren't for his absolutely perfect way of narrating and splendid use of the English language, virtually any other writer would have bumbled this initially somewhat tense but eventually deeply endearing romance.Martin and Scarborough, both in their late 30s, are next door neighbors (if you can say that about Wyoming ranch territory); both are gay (neither one of them having disclosed it to the other, but it's understood); and they're also best friends (though you sometimes wonder how close they really are).Martin is well known in the community, his parents are also ranchers, but Scarborough is a loner who moved to Wyoming after a long trek through stints after leaving his father's ranch in Nebraska as a teenager.Interesting couple of characters who could bore you to death if it weren't from Grey's wonderfully insightful dialogues and expositions. But just when you think these two are going to start boring you, Martin throws a curve into Scarborough's slightly shocking decision to attend his high school graduation's 20th anniversary celebration back in Nebraska."I'll come with you," he says to a very nervous, almost hermit-like Scarborough. Then the fun begins and the book takes off.That's all I'm going to say other than if you are an Andrew Grey fan, you've probably already gobbled this up. If you haven't hooked up with his books before, this one is a bit of a different trip that you should plan on taking. This book was well written in standard American English. I know it seems weird that that is the first thing I say, but it is so rare nowadays. The storyline was pretty good, although the resolution of all of the problems seemed too simplistic to me. Considering how much stress the main characters felt about everything that was happening, it all seemed to end just a little too quickly and easily.The narrator (Martin) was well written and seemed whole and complete; however, the second main character (Scarborough) was missing something. I knew he was supposed to be troubled by his past, but I didn’t feel it.Another thing that really annoyed me was that we were never introduced to the narrator. We had to kind of figure out what his name was on our own because it was written in first person. He referred to himself as I, and it took what seemed like forever to know his whole name. I still couldn’t tell you what he looks like, and I read every word.I can say I never had the urge to skip ahead, so I have to give it credit for that.
